Bungee Jumping!
Tuesday, 19 February 2008

So this past weekend my girl and I went bungee jumping for the first time somewhere inside the San Gabriel Mountains.  After 5 miles of hiking through rough terrain and multiple river crossings we finally made it to the bridge to no where!

The bridge was constructed in 1936.  Apparently someone was supposed to build a road to it.  I'm guessing some guys just figured they'd build a bridge in the middle of no where just to fuck with people.

As you can see from this close up they set up a small ledge that you can stand on along with a pulley system to pull people back up after they drop.  Both the pulley and ledge are one solid piece and are colored red to ensure that the urine traveling down your leg stands out for everyone to see.

The view!   I've been skydiving before and when I jumped out of the plane the view was nice.  Distant patches of  green and brown followed by the blue hue of the ocean.  This was the exact opposite of that.  Jagged rocks, branches, mud,  and pain.  All in one nice compact view.  It made me just a tad nervous!

Imminent death

And finally the drop of death. And in case you were wondering, Yes, I survived. The initial fall is kinda scary but just when you think it's over you remember that you've got a bunch of smaller falls ahead of you. Finally, it ends, you get pulled up, change your underwear, and get ready to do it all over again!

I can honestly say that I will never jump off of anything higher than the top bunk. A freaking bridge? That's just ridiculous.
